Former central banker Mark Carney won the race to become leader of Canada’s ruling Liberal party and will later succeed Justin Trudeau as prime minister. Carney takes on the role as Canada is locked in a potentially catastrophic trade war with the US. Carney said that while Canada had not asked for the fight: ‘We will win.’
