VIEW SPECIAL DAY SUNRISE DOWNTOWN VANCOUVER

Seeing the sunrise over Downtown Vancouver is a truly spectacular experience, as the city’s modern skyline lights up against the backdrop of the North Shore mountains.

Sunrise Time in Vancouver

The exact time of sunrise changes throughout the year. Based on the current date, the sunrise in Vancouver, BC is at approximately 6:19 AM PDT.1 This time will continue to get later as the summer progresses towards autumn. For the most accurate and up-to-date time for any specific day, you can check a reliable almanac or weather website.

Best Spots to Watch the Sunrise

While you can see the sunrise from many places, a few locations offer particularly breathtaking views of the city. Since the sun rises in the east, the best spots will typically have an eastward-facing view of the downtown core.

1. Stanley Park Seawall (facing east towards Coal Harbour)

This is a classic and very popular choice for a reason. As you walk or bike along the eastern part of the seawall, you’ll get a stunning view of the sun coming up over the mountains and reflecting off the glass buildings of Downtown Vancouver.

2. Cypress Mountain Lookout

For a panoramic, elevated view, the Cypress Mountain Lookout is hard to beat. Located part of the way up the Cypress Bowl Road, it offers a sweeping vista of the entire city skyline, Burrard Inlet, and Mount Baker in the distance. This is a very popular spot for photographers.

3. Lonsdale Quay (North Vancouver)

From the waterfront at Lonsdale Quay, you get a direct view of the downtown skyline across the water. The sunrise here creates a beautiful silhouette of the city against the colorful sky. You can get there via the SeaBus from Waterfront Station in downtown.2

4. Queen Elizabeth Park

As the highest point in Vancouver, this park offers a fantastic, unobstructed view of the city. While it’s a bit further from the downtown core, it provides a unique perspective of the entire cityscape surrounded by mountains.

5. English Bay Beach (looking east)

While English Bay is famous for its sunsets, the beach can also offer a lovely view of the sunrise, especially when the light hits the buildings of the West End. You’ll also get the added benefit of the calm morning waters.
